The Balsillie School of International Affairs and the University of Waterloo’s School of Social, Political and Historical Research invite submissions for its Canada Defence 2035 Symposium, which will take place January 19–20, 2027.
As Canada enters a period of significant defence transformation, the symposium will bring together scholars, policymakers, industry leaders, defence practitioners, and allied partners to consider how Canada can strengthen its defence and security architecture while navigating rapid technological change.
The symposium will explore the intersection of defence capability, technological innovation, industrial development, governance, and international cooperation, with particular attention to how Canada can integrate conventional defence capabilities with emerging and dual-use technologies.
Symposium themes include:
- Strategic Defence and National Capability
- Dual-Use Technologies and Emerging Capability
- Defence Procurement and Industrial Development
- Governance, Policy and Regulation
- Canada and Allied Partnerships
Submissions are encouraged from scholars, policymakers, practitioners, industry leaders, and interdisciplinary researchers working across defence, security, governance, innovation, and public policy.
