The School community was sad to hear of the recent passing of Reid Morden, one of its valued BSIA Fellows who was associated with the STEM for Global Resilience Research Cluster. Reid had a long and decorated career as a Canadian public service leader. In addition to serving in Canadian diplomatic missions in New York, Geneva, Pakistan and Japan, Reid held senior roles in Ottawa including Foreign Affairs and Defence Adviser to the Prime Minister. Between 1988 and 1992, Reid served as Canada’s second-ever head of the Canadian Security Intelligence Services and, following this appointment, became president of Atomic Energy Canada Ltd. Reid will be remembered by friends and colleagues of the Balsillie School for his soft-spoken foresight and wisdom – as well as his belief and commitment to the raw principles of democracy.
