At a time of unprecedented geopolitical uncertainty, the Balsillie School of International Affairs – in partnership with the American University’s School of International Service, Department of of Foreign Policy and Global Security, and the Transatlantic Policy Center in Washington, D.C. and the Royal United Services Institute in London, invites you to join a timely and thought-provoking online discussion with three leading NATO experts—Edward Arnold (U.K.), Garret Martin (U.S.), and Alexander Lanoszka (Canada). This moderated webinar will explore the future of the NATO alliance as it faces a confluence of challenges: a shifting transatlantic relationship under a new U.S. administration, escalating global trade tensions, and the ongoing war in Ukraine. These developments are forcing difficult questions about NATO’s strategic direction, its role in global stability, and how collective defence may be reshaping in an era marked by hybrid threats, disinformation, and technological disruption.
As economic pressures mount and security risks evolve, the need for a renewed dialogue on transatlantic cooperation has never been greater. This event offers a unique opportunity to hear from experts across three NATO member states on the Alliance’s evolving role, the urgency of investing in new defence capabilities, and the path forward for shared security commitments. Join us for this vital conversation that seeks to unpack the shifting definitions of “defence” in a fractured world order—and assess what’s next for NATO in navigating the balance between deterrence, diplomacy, and resilience.
