Academic Roundtable: Protecting Canadians from Dis- and Misinformation

April 9 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Join us for an exclusive breakfast roundtable discussion featuring a presentation by panelists Jennifer Irish (Information Integrity Lab, University of Ottawa), Marcus Kolga (DisinfoWatch), and Aengus Bridgman (Media Ecosystem Observatory, McGill University). The discussion will explore the state-of-the-art research and policy solutions in the realm of disinformation, fostering deeper collaboration among policymakers, academics, and practitioners – especially in the midst of the Canadian elections.

Brett Boudreau will be the discussant. Brett served in the Canadian Armed Forces for nearly 30 years, including 22 years as a public affairs officer, with four assignments as a colonel at National Defence Headquarters, NATO HQ Brussels, the Privy Council Office (Afghanistan Task Force), and in the army reserve (2020-21) with the chief of the defence staff’s office. He has worked at NATO HQs in Mons, Brussels and Kabul, and is a graduate of the NATO Defence College senior course. Since 2009, he has served as principal consultant for Veritas Strategic Communications, providing C-suite advice to help integrate policy, operations and organizational narrative to inform institutional operations and activities. In 2016, NATO published his book, We Have Met the Enemy And He Is Us, an examination of the strategic communications campaign during the NATO-led ISAF mission from 2003-2014.

Breakfast will be served from 8:30 am – 9:00 am.
