Mona is a graduate student in the Master of International Public Policy program at the Balsillie School of International Affairs. Mona is interested in migration governance, refugee policy, and the impacts of forced migration on wellbeing, particularly in relation to equitable access to mental health services. She aims to advance policies and programs that support the protection, integration, and wellbeing of displaced populations, contributing to international approaches to refugee assistance and resettlement.
Over a span of 15 years, Mona provided mental health support to displaced persons, refugees, immigrants, and international students. Most recently, she served as a counsellor in post-secondary institutions, where she delivered psychotherapy, designed intercultural training, and advised on mental health service models for international students. Prior to this, she worked in the settlement sector, supporting refugee resettlement initiatives. She also served as a Psychological Emergency Responder with Health Canada, where she delivered frontline mental health care at Pearson Airport during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Her professional experience further included work with the Institute for Studies in Global Prosperity, where she facilitated programs for post-secondary students aimed at cultivating capacities for social betterment and global prosperity. In addition, she contributed to the Baha’i International Community, where she coordinated staff operations, supported dignitary events, and managed a significant departmental budget.
