BSIA releases “The Illiberal Order: 2025 Global Trends Report”

The Balsillie School of International Affairs is pleased to launch The Illiberal Order: 2025 Global Trends Report, an anthology of policy briefs prepared by students in the Masters of International Public Policy and Masters of Arts in Global Governance programs.

The ninth in the series of Global Trends Reports, The Illiberal Order features briefs on a wide range of global issues, including new strategic partnerships for Canada, sports diplomacy, the war in Ukraine, technology-driven warfare, the future of international assistance, advancing human rights and gender responsive migration, green transitions, smart agriculture, climate disaster responses, inclusive trade, digital authoritarianism, leveraging satellite data for the SDGs, and a national strategy for the intangibles economy.

BSIA is also pleased to announce the winner of the inaugural “Best Policy Brief” Award. All briefs included in this year’s Global Trends Report were judged by a panel of five BSIA Fellows who were not involved in mentoring any of last year’s projects. The winner for the 2023-2024 academic year is “Digital Authoritarianism: A Case for Policy Supporting Data Unions,” by Carissa Hubbard, Justin Myers and Reagan Roopnarine and mentored by Dr. Jeremy Hunsinger. The student winners will each receive an award of $500.

Congratulations to our students for all of their hard work. A special thank you to the mentors and colleagues at the Centre for International Governance Innovation, Global Affairs Canada and the Canadian Foreign Service Alumni Forum, without whom the anthology would not have been possible.
