GPE/WatPEG research cluster announces new leadership

The BSIA community is delighted to announce that Eric Helleiner has taken over the leadership of the BSIA’s Global Political Economy/WatPEG research cluster. Eric led this group when it was initially formed as the Waterloo Political Economy Group (WatPEG) in the late 2000s at the University of Waterloo, and is well known to the School and its cluster members.

We would also like to say a huge thanks to both Derek Hall and Heather Whiteside for their outstanding leadership of the GPE/WatPEG cluster to date. We are enormously grateful to both Derek and Heather for their efforts to consolidate scholarly material for the cluster, facilitate interesting discussions, hold social ‘mixers’, bring exceptional guest speakers to the School, and organize the bi-annual PhD Dissertation Workshop. This year’s Dissertation Workshop was held on the 29th and 30th of April and featured a terrific keynote lecture by BSIA faculty member Pierre Siklos on the evening of April 28 to kick things off. Dissertation proposals/chapters and papers featured at the workshop were written by 10 PhD students from the BSIA (UW and Laurier), and other institutions in Canada, the US and the Netherlands.

We look forward to continuing to work with both Derek and Heather in other capacities at the School, and warmly welcome Eric back to the role.
