Master of Arts in Global Governance

Mandana Jamshidian is a 22-year-old student in the Master of Arts in Global Governance (MAGG) program, and her interests lie in conflict and security as well as human rights and social justice. She received her undergraduate degree from McMaster in sociology, which heavily influenced her desire to apply for the Master of Arts in Global Governance. While studying her undergraduate degree, Mandana took great interest in the sociology of politics and law. She enjoyed looking at how different theorists examined power in these arenas and the fickle nature of international law. To deepen her knowledge of these matters and to tie it back to the day-to-day impacts this has on human life, Mandana decided to pursue a Master’s in Global Governance.

She greatly appreciated the interdisciplinary approach this program provides as she tried to incorporate fields like philosophy, globalization, and political science into her undergraduate studies. Mandana believes the approach the MAGG program provides will allow her to consider a multitude of perspectives when conducting her final research paper. Although unsure of what exactly she would like to write as of yet, topics of interest to her are the differences in power experienced by the Global North and the Global South and the effects this has on individuals, especially vulnerable communities like women. Mandana is eager to learn and hopes to make a difference on the global stage, aiming to improve life experiences beyond Canada’s borders.
