Magdalene Barack is a graduate student pursuing a Master of International Public Policy at the Balsillie School of International Affairs. She graduated with distinction from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2026, earning an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Law & Society with a double minor in Leadership and Criminology. Throughout her undergraduate degree, Magdalene developed a strong interest in the multi-functionality of both national and international affairs and their role in shaping global policy and governance, humanitarian efforts, global justice and resolution regarding issues of conflict and security.
As part of her undergraduate studies, Magdalene conducted interviews with lawyers in various legal fields to understand their perspectives on the justice system and their outlook on the relationship between law and society. This research-driven approach allowed her to bridge academic theory with the lived realities of legal practitioners, sharpening her ability to synthesize qualitative insights into broader legislative and policy analysis. Magdalene has also carried out extensive research on the history of international legislative operations and their objectives as pillars of human rights, governance, and global order.
Magdalene interned for the Ontario Provincial Parliament in 2024, where she contributed to Oakville’s constituency and legislative operations. She was entrusted to engage directly with constituents, support community events, and collaborate with various local stakeholders. Through this opportunity, Magdalene was able to strengthen her professionalism within the public sector, analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as deeply engaging with understanding of the legislative process and the ethical dimension of public decision-making.
During her time at Balsillie School of International Affairs, Magdalene is building the analytical, research, and policy-design skills needed to address complex global challenges. Following the completion of her graduate studies, she aspires to apply her training towards a cooperative global society.
