Isaac Van Pelt

Isaac Van Pelt is a graduate student in the Master of International Public Policy program at the Balsillie School of International Affairs. He holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Politics and International Relations and Philosophy from Redeemer University.

During his undergraduate studies, Isaac served as a Teaching and Research Assistant for Dr. Robert Joustra, contributing to publications on just war theory in the Review of Faith and International Affairs, and Dr. Adam Barkman, providing research on ethics and pedagogy. Isaac also had the honour of participating as a Summer Honours Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, discussing economics, immigration, and social policy alongside emerging scholars from across the world.

Professionally, he has worked as a Labour Representative for a private sector union and in a constituency office for a Member of Provincial Parliament, where he led public communications, office research, and stakeholder engagement. Isaac continues to work in the constituency office, managing operations and communications strategy.

Isaac is interested in how public policy shapes trust in public institutions. At the Balsillie School, he hopes to explore this across technological governance, international political economy, and migration, particularly how pluralistic societies can build transparent and accountable institutions amid rapidly advancing technology and divides in social values and perspectives.
