Net Zero in Northern Polar Nations: How Does Canada Stack Up?

This lecture will discuss Canadian climate policy in the context of actions being taken by other polar nations who face similar geographic, economic and structural challenges, and explore whether there are lessons Canada can learn from countries such as Norway, Finland and Sweden as they seek to pursue Net Zero goals in a more uncertain world.

About the Speakers

Debora VanNijnatten is Professor of Political Science and Environmental Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University and faculty member at the Balsillie School of International Affairs. Her research focuses on Canadian and American climate policy as well as water governance under conditions of accelerating climate change.

Bella Reis has just completed her Master of Applied Politics at Laurier. Her Major Research Paper involved a policy analysis of Canada’s oil and gas cap.
