Human Shields and the Changing Nature of War

May 14 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

This discussion is open to BSIA students and faculty.
Hosted by the Global Institutions, Diplomacy, and Justice Research Cluster

Neve Gordon will deliver a keynote lecture titled “The Gaza Doctrine: Implications for International Law and the Future of the Middle East” on May 13 at the University of Waterloo.
Following the keynote, this workshop will invite research cluster members to explore in greater depth the ideas and themes raised in Professor Gordon’s talk. Participants may also wish to engage directly with his recent publication, Human Shields: A History of People in the Line of Fire (University of California Press, 2020; paperback edition with a new preface and epilogue, 2026).
The session will be facilitated by Jasmin Habib, with the aim of fostering critical dialogue on the intersection of human rights research and advocacy.
