Efua Edufua Abekah is a Master of Development Practice (MDP) student at the University of Waterloo. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and French from the University of Ghana and has professional experience in administration, human resources and nonprofit work.
Through her work with the Accra Resource Center, a nonprofit organization focused on education, youth empowerment and digital skills development, Efua has gained experience supporting programs and working with people from different backgrounds. She also worked with the Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Studies at the University of Ghana, where she supported seminars, workshops, sustainability initiatives and program activities.
Her interest in development is also shaped by her experience supporting her father’s farming enterprise in Ghana. Through her involvement she has gained a practical understanding of rural livelihoods and some of the challenges faced by people whose livelihoods depend on natural resources.
Efua is interested in social and economic inequality, community development and the relationship between sustainable development and people’s livelihoods. She is interested in how policies and programs can respond to the needs of communities while creating opportunities for people to improve their lives.
Through the MDP program, Efua hopes to strengthen her knowledge and practical skills in development and contribute to solutions that promote more inclusive and sustainable communities, particularly in developing-country contexts.
