Dr. Douglas Deutschman is the Associate Vice-President and Dean of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University. He is a conservation biologist and statistician whose research focuses on monitoring, analyzing, and managing endangered species and their habitats. He has extensive experience developing models of complex adaptive systems and using analytics to guide conservation efforts as well as to assess learning in higher education. Dr. Deutschman has designed workshops and given invited talks on data-informed decision-making to NGO’s, city and county governments, State and Federal wildlife agencies, universities, and at international academic conferences. He has been dedicated to student mentoring. He has served on 62 MSc and 12 PhD committees and has also mentored over 100 undergraduate students .

Prior to joining Laurier in 2017, he was at San Diego State University where he was a Professor of Biology, Associate Dean of the College of Sciences, and Chair of the University Senate.

Dr. Deutschman received his BSc from University of Pennsylvania, has three Masters’ degrees, one in Statistics from University of Waterloo, one in Mathematical Ecology from Princeton University and the third in Ecology from Bowling Green State University. He received his Ph.D. in Mathematical Ecology from Cornell University.
