Jayce Abrams

Master of Arts in Global Governance

Jayce Abrams is a Master of Arts in Global Governance candidate at the Balsillie School of International Affairs, focusing on digital and data sovereignty in Canada. He is a graduate of the University of Windsor, where he completed an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Criminology and Political Science and was named to the Dean’s List. He also holds a Police Foundations diploma from Lambton College, where he was recognized on the Program Dean’s Honours List.

Jayce has professional experience in Canadian public institutions. He most recently served as a Constituency Assistant in the House of Commons, where he supported a diverse constituency and resolved inquiries and complaints while keeping an apolitical stance. Previously, he was a student intern with the Municipality of Lakeshore, where he conducted a critical review of municipal bylaws, identified opportunities for modernization and prepared analytical summaries and policy recommendation reports for senior decision makers.

His international experience includes a study program in Brussels examining the European Union’s role in global governance and transatlantic relations, with briefings and site visits at EU institutions and NATO headquarters. He also served on the international board of Junior Optimist International, where he helped direct fund allocation and operations across multiple chapters and helped plan two international conventions, one virtual and one in person.

Trained in statistical analysis and policy research, and a participant in the Technology Governance Summer School, Jayce is interested in how foreign laws affect Canadian data, how public procurement can strengthen control over critical systems, and how Indigenous data sovereignty should shape national digital policy. His background in criminology also informs his interest in surveillance and the balance between security and rights. At the Balsillie School, he is eager to deepen his expertise in technology governance and public policy.
