Deputy Minister of Affordability and Utilities, Government of Alberta

David James is a transformative executive leader with over 30 years of experience. He is active in advancing Alberta’s evolving energy landscape, including the province’s electricity system and market, and its evaluation of nuclear energy potential. David played key roles in Alberta’s strategic energy planning and was central to developing the Natural Gas Vision and Strategy. His extensive public service includes various Deputy Minister and executive roles where he oversaw digital and organizational transformations, and the launch of the Alberta Broadband Strategy. Known for his collaborative values-driven leadership style, David builds teams that excel in complex environments. Prior to government, he spent 20 years as an Army Signals officer with the Canadian Forces and is a graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada. He is married to the love of his life and the proud father of three amazing kids.
