Sim Sitzer (he/him) is pursuing the Master of Development Practice at the Balsillie School of International Affairs and University of Waterloo. He acknowledges his role as a settler on the traditional territory of the Attawandaron (Neutral), Anishinaabeg, and Haudenosaunee peoples and strives to incorporate Indigenous knowledge and wisdom into his life and work.
Sim holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Florida International University. He also has two years of experience working for a Member of Parliament in Ottawa. These experiences inspired his interest in development and led him to pursue graduate studies in the field.
Recognizing that conventional modes of growth and production are driving economic inequality and the earth system crisis, Sim is exploring well-being-focused development practices aimed at building capacity and fostering human flourishing. By bridging theory with practice, Sim seeks to disrupt systems of oppression and contribute to global efforts advancing intersectional feminism, 2SLGBTQIA+ liberation, anti-racism, migrant justice, and lasting peace.
In his free time, Sim enjoys learning languages and travelling; he speaks intermediate French and Spanish.
