Katie Burry is a graduate student in the Master of International Public Policy program at the Balsillie School of International Affairs. She earned her Bachelor of Arts with Distinction from the University of Alberta, majoring in Political Science and Women’s and Gender Studies. She also completed a Certificate in Globalization and Governance, which strengthened her focus on international and comparative public policy.
During her undergraduate studies, Katie completed a summer semester abroad in Berlin, Germany, where she studied Gender Politics in Wartime and Peacetime Berlin. This experience deepened her interest in feminist foreign policy, migration, and international security. Professionally, Katie is a Policy Intern with the Government of Alberta in the Ministry of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration (JETI). Within Labour Force Policy and Strategies (LFPS) and Intergovernmental Relations and Strategic Policy, she has contributed to the development of Alberta’s Job Strategies 2025–2030 and supports interprovincial and federal–provincial policy initiatives.
In addition to her academic and government experience, Katie is actively involved in the non-profit housing sector. She has served for more than two years as Board President of Heritage Hills Housing Cooperative and is a Director on the Board of the Northern Alberta Cooperative Housing Association. In these roles, she has worked to advance affordable housing policy, strengthen cooperative governance, and build capacity for community-driven housing solutions.
While completing the Master of International Public Policy, Katie aims to specialize in social policy and human security, focusing on feminist foreign policy, migration governance, and equity in housing and economic development.
Her ambition is to bring an intersectional and justice-driven approach to policy analysis, ensuring that public policy is both inclusive and sustainable.
Upon graduation, Katie aspires to pursue a career in public service or international policy, contributing to policies that advance equity, strengthen democratic institutions, and address global challenges through feminist and inclusive approaches.
