Taylor Reilly-Smith

Taylor is a dedicated student in the MIPP program at BSIA. He graduated from Trent University in 2025 with a BAH in Global Development Studies & Anthropology and a specialization in African Studies.

Throughout his undergraduate studies, Taylor participated in a year abroad in Ghana, during which he completed a 3-month internship with a social enterprise that focuses on recycling and reincorporating plastic waste into the production cycle. In his final two years, he completed a community-based research project focusing on the experiences of start-up visa clients within Canada, and a policy placement course that included a review of a paid day program offered by a Disability Services organization in Peterborough and the Kawartha region, Ontario.

Taylor’s undergraduate experience led him to develop two core academic interests: how people navigate shifts in the global political landscape, and how culture manifests within this landscape. In pursuit of these passions, he hopes to pursue a career in policy evaluation following the completion of his MIPP, paying close attention to the sociocultural implication of policy implementation both in terms of citizen perception and real impact.

Taylor’s policy interests include global trade, immigration, and housing. His research interests are often directed towards the emergence of nationalism/populism as a reaction to policy development. In his free time, Taylor likes to read and exercise.
