Sarah Harvey (she/her) is from Mississauga, Ontario, and holds a Bachelor of Environmental Studies with a specialization in International Development (Honours) from the University of Waterloo. A recent graduate with a strong passion for advancing global equity and sustainability, she has experience working with NGOs in East Africa and Canada, engaging in cross-cultural collaboration and contributing to impactful programs addressing global development challenges.
Through Waterloo’s INDEV program, Sarah did an eight-month placement in Malawi with World University Service of Canada (WUSC) in 2022. There, she designed communication strategies with local partners, conducted an independent research project on the role of ICT in the lives of smallholder farmers in Malawi, and facilitated training sessions to strengthen organizational capacity for sharing equitable and socially inclusive information with diverse audiences. During this time, she also co-founded The Youth Dialogue Podcast and Radio Show, a volunteer-driven platform amplifying the voices of Malawian youth by sharing their challenges, successes, and lived experiences.
Following this, Sarah completed a fellowship in Uganda at Jangu International. In this role, she supported young entrepreneurs in launching social enterprises, building their communications skillset, and engaged Canadian audiences on themes such as women’s empowerment, climate change, and social innovation. Since 2023, Sarah has worked with Dignity Network Canada as Communications and Engagement Officer, developing strategic communications and supporting movement-building to advance Canada’s leadership in the global LGBTIQ human rights movement.
Across her academic and professional experiences, Sarah has developed a keen interest in the intersections of global governance, gender equality, and inclusive communications. She is driven to explore the causes of complex international issues and develop innovative, interdisciplinary solutions through advanced graduate studies.
