Sophie Greco is a PhD student at the BSIA through Wilfrid Laurier University, specializing in Global Governance with a focus on Conflict and Security. Her doctoral research aims to explore the impact of gendered movements/mobilizations/organizations in Latin America on the construction of post conflict “peace”.
Sophie’s academic foundations include an MA in Criminology and Criminal Justice Policy where she focused largely on the overrepresentation of Indigenous women and children (and non-binary/2-spirit folk) in the Canadian Justice System as a perpetuation of genocidal carcerality. Sophie also holds an Honors Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Ontario, specializing in Criminology with an additional Major in Global Justice. During her undergraduate and graduate careers, she has worked on community-engaged learning projects, served in Graduate Teaching Assistant roles, and Graduate Research Assistant roles (spanning topics such as protection of civilians, armed youth, municipal ACOCs and criminal appeal decisions in Canada).
Sophie’s work and research interests pull from and can be attributed to the epistemologies of Intersectionality, Feminist and Southern Feminist theory, Queer theory, gendered analysis, and Decolonization.
As she progresses in her doctoral studies, Sophie is eager to learn from those around her and engage in new academic endeavours. Outside of academia, Sophie is a tropical plant enthusiast, an avid foodie, and a mass consumer of documentaries.
