Olivia Karp is a graduate student in the International Public Policy program at the Balsillie School of International Affairs. Prior to her acceptance into the program, she graduated from Ryerson University (now known as Toronto Metropolitan University) with an Honours degree in Political Science.

Olivia has several work experiences in the NGO, non-profit, government and think tank sector which lead her interest in the study of migration and climate change. During her undergraduate degree, she worked for the organization FCJ Refugee Centre where she helped in newcomer-based programming focusing on settlement, advocacy, and protection. She was also part of the NATO Association of Canada and the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program where she did research and policy work centering around the effects climate change has on migration. She is now part of the Climate Mobility Working Group through the United Nations Major Group for Children and Youth where she hopes to further her work around these two topics on an international scale.

While pursuing her masters at Laurier, Olivia looks forward to making an impact. Her primary areas of research include climate change, global migration, urbanization, human security, displacement, and security. At the Balsillie School of International Affairs, Olivia hopes to grow her current understandings to facilitate a future in working on issues within climate change and migration.
