Drake Kindred

Master of International Public Policy, 2022

Drake Kindred is a Master of Internatinal Public Policy Candidate specializing in Human Security and International Environmental Policy at the Balsillie School of International Affairs. Drake is a recent graduate from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Arts [Honours Double Major] in Political Science and Psychology.

During his undergraduate studies he developed a keen interest in the Global environment and Human Security through various projects surrounding human rights and global development. Moreover, his work in psychology allowed him to gain a greater understanding of individual decision-making and the many drivers of policy.

More recently, Drake had the opportunity to participate in the 2022 Japan-Canada Academic Consortium where he interacted and assisted with undergraduate students in outlining formal presentations. The experience highlighted his desire to continue working on Indo-Pacific relations while exphasizing the important overlap between security and the environment within the region.

In addition, Drake’s experience working in a Community Living Cambridge assigned group home illustrated his commitment to those individuals who are often marginalized in society. This experience helped to further his understanding of the many challenges minorities face. He hopes that he can apply his experience to the various challenges faced by those embroiled in conflict and facing security risks associated with climate change.

In particular, Drake hopes to take his focus on environmental policy and human security studies and apply it to the challenges faced by individuals, intergovernmental organizations and non-profits throughout Asia and other world regions. Currently he is working on developing an Indo-Pacific Strategy for Global Affairs Canada that will highlight the importance of diversification and regional stability and security with Canada as a regional leader.
