Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas: A New Era of Indigenous-led Conservation in Canada and Beyond

Eli Enns is a leader in Indigenous-led conservation in Canada. In this seminar, Eli will discuss how Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs) lead to positive biodiversity outcomes, make tangible progress on our Sustainable Development Goals, and foster alternative pathways to economic certainty.

A member of Tla-o-qui-aht Nation, Eli is Co-founder and President of the IISAAK OLAM Foundation and CEO of the CleanTech Community Gateway. Eli co-chaired the Indigenous Circle of Experts for the Pathway to Canada Target 1 producing the ground-breaking report “We Rise Together”. A Nuu-Chah-Nulth Canadian political scientist, Eli is passionate about constitutional law, international dispute resolution and Indigenous economic theory and practice.

This seminar is brought to you by the Cold Regions Research Centre (CRRC), the Balsillie School of International Affairs Environment and Resources Research Cluster, the Office of Indigenous Initiatives, and the John McMurry Research Chair in Environmental Geography.
