The BSIA celebrated the successful launch of the Migration+Technology Hub on October 8th, 2024 with a full-day workshop, Migration and Technology: Governance Innovations, Challenges, and Future Directions. The workshop featured engaging panel discussions and a keynote address by Dr. Eleonore Fournier-Tombs, Head of Anticipatory Action and Innovation at the United Nations University, who delivered insights on AI, migration, gender, and human rights. Several BSIA students also participated as panel members, contributing to critical conversations on topics such as migration control, digital platforms, remittances, and migration governance.
The Migration+Technology Hub will engage in developing innovative approaches to the study of migration, supporting research on contemporary migration technologies and migrant rights. The Hub aims to tackle a wide range of issues, including reducing inequalities, promoting sustainability, and protecting the human and labour rights of migrants.
Special thanks to our partners: Wilfrid Laurier University (WLU), the Balsillie School of International Affairs (BSIA), the International Migration Research Centre (IMRC), the Canada Foundation for Innovation, the University of the Western Cape (UWC), and the MiFOOD Network, for their support in making the workshop and launch a success!
