Pegah Jamalof (PJ) is a PhD candidate in Global Governance at the Balsillie School of International Affairs. Her research focuses on the United Nations’ Global Digital Compact and its implications for regulating social media companies, protecting human rights, and fostering multistakeholder collaboration. Her work examines the intersection of social media governance, corporate social responsibility, and the role of international institutions in addressing human rights challenges. PJ employs qualitative and iterative methodologies, to explore the impact and effectiveness of global governance frameworks. PJ is supervised by Dr. Alistair Edgar, a distinguished scholar specializing in international security, and multilateral governance.
She holds a Master of Applied Politics and a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Political Science and Sociology from Wilfrid Laurier University. With a background in policy development and research, she has worked as a Research Assistant for both Dr. Patricia Goff and the Graduate Student Association at Wilfrid Laurier University. Her work has addressed topics such as industrial policy, international student experiences, and food insecurity in municipal contexts. She also served as a student consultant with the Sexual Assault Support Centre’s public education team, contributing to sexual violence prevention policies for Hockey Canada training.
As the former President and CEO of the Wilfrid Laurier Students’ Union, PJ led the non-profit organization and collaborated with university administrators to promote initiatives on Indigenous rights, mental health, and sexual violence policy. She also contributed to policy development in Ontario as Vice-President of Government and Stakeholder Relations for the Students’ Union and served on both the Senate and Board of Governors at Laurier.
Beyond her academic and professional pursuits, PJ is a dedicated long-distance runner and marathon trainee, balancing her schedule with her passion for fitness. Born and raised in Toronto, PJ envisions a career in consulting with international organizations or global consulting firms, aiming to make meaningful contributions to human rights and digital governance.
