Misha Goforth holds a Bachelor’s Degree of Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo with a major in international development and a minor in environmental management.

With a specialization in development practice and 4 years of experience working with NGOs, GAC and USAID-funded projects, and numerous public sector organizations in Mongolia, Misha has developed extensive skills and a unique perspective on the practical applications of Canada’s international public policies. Based on her interdisciplinary background, Misha is interested in the intersections of environmental and economic policy with critical gender theory and in the expressions of hegemony present in Canada’s international public policies.

Since completing her undergraduate degree, Misha has been working as an advisor with the MERIT (Mongolia: Enhancing Resource Management through Institutional Transformation) project in Mongolia. In her capacity as gender equality adviser, Misha worked directly with the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, and the National Committee on Gender Equality, as well as numerous provincial governments to create gender mainstreamed public policies, conduct organizational gender audits and improve gender equality within internal government structures. Notably, Misha conducted the first ILO gender audit in the Mongolian public service; worked with the Dornod provincial government to publish a comprehensive gender budgeting manual for local budget users in Mongolia; and consulted on the creation of the State Policy on Petroleum Sector Development and the Geology, Mining, Petroleum and Heavy Industry Gender-Responsive Policy.

As a candidate for the Master’s of International Public Policy, Misha looks forward to further exploring environmental and economic policies from a perspective of gender and LGBTQIA2+ theory and indigenous sovereignty.
