Larry Swatuk is Professor and Director of the International Development program at the University of Waterloo. He is also Adjunct Professor of International Development, St. Mary’s University, Halifax; External Research Fellow, Centre for Foreign Policy Studies, Dalhousie University, Halifax; and Vice-President of the Canadian Association for the Study of International Development. Dr. Swatuk trained in political science and international relations, with a specialization in Third World political economy and foreign policy. In the early 1990s, his research moved toward the political economy of the enviroment and natural resource management with a specific focus on water resources in Southern Africa. Prior to joining the University of Waterloo, Swatuk was a lecturer at the University of Botswana and Associate Professor of Resource Governance at the Okavango Research Institute (1996-2007); Senior Research Fellow, African Centre for Development and Security Studies (1995-96); and a post-doctoral fellow at the York Centre for International Security Studies (1993-95).
