This event is open to the BSIA community.
Launched last year by the BSIA Anti-oppression and Equity Committee (AOEC), Hadithii Hadithii, is an annual student-led initiative which aims to bring together people of colour within our community to share their “stories”.
Hadithii Hadithii: Expressions of Colour, is an event open to all within our BSIA community to learn and celebrate culture within our global family.
Suggested by MAGG 2021 AOEC Rep. Ashley Mungai, “Hadithii” is a Swahili word that translates to “story” in English and is a word used in succession to express the desire for a story to be told. Storytelling can be an extremely powerful platform for sharing and expressing culture. At this event, storytellers will share stories of personal experiences to cultural expressions through a diversity of mediums.
The event organisers also invite all attendees to come with a medium (picture, anecdote, item or piece of dress) that is representative of something from their own culture or representative to them of a pivotal moment in their own families where storytelling was vital.
Lastly, we still have a few vacancies for storytellers; if you are interested in sharing your “story”, please get in touch with Ben Skinner (Event Host) or Ashley Mungai via events@balsillieschool.ca.
