The Balsillie School of International Affairs is pleased to announce a new partnership with OVHcloud, a global cloud player and the leading European cloud provider, to help drive technical advancements and meaningful discussions on technology governance.

The partnership was announced on November 5th at the inaugural “Canada’s Innovation Future” event, co-hosted by the BSIA, OVHcloud and CIGI, which attracted a crowd of more than 150 people. The event brought together thought-leaders, academics, and industry experts from Ontario’s vibrant tech sector to address the intersection of innovation and regulation, with a focus on fostering open, trusted and sustainable technologies. The event discussions centered on creating frameworks that balanced technological growth with responsible governance, particularly in areas like artificial intelligence.

In addition to co-hosting this annual event, OVHcloud will also support the BSIA’s technology governance internship program. The program facilitates the placement of graduate students in corporate, government and not-for-profit organizations to allow students to gain hands-on experience on governance and policy issues concerning emerging technologies. Internship partners, like OVHcloud, benefit from students bringing fresh perspectives on critical issues, such as data protection and sovereignty, to their organizations.

“Our partnership with OVHcloud exemplifies our dedication to research, which examines issues concerning responsible, informed innovation that aligns with international standards for data sovereignty and sustainability. Together, we look forward to equipping future leaders with the insights and expertise needed to navigate Canada’s evolving digital landscape”, said Ann Fitz-Gerald, Director of the BSIA.

OVHcloud operates more than 450,000 servers within 43 data centers across four continents to reach 1.6 million customers in more than 140 countries. They recently opened their first facility in Ontario and second in Canada in Cambridge in order to be near the ever-growing tech hub that is Waterloo region.

“As data sovereignty and sustainable innovation become increasingly critical for Canadian businesses, OVHcloud is well-positioned to support this shift with cloud solutions tailored to local needs. Our partnership with the Balsillie School of International Affairs underscores our commitment to driving both technical advancements and meaningful discussions on technology governance, shaping Canada’s digital future,” said Estelle Azemard, VP Americas, OVHcloud.
