Peter Lawler is a recent graduate from the University of Waterloo with a Master of Arts in Political Science. Peter completed a Master’s Research Paper highlighting the challenges of domestic U.S. counter-terrorism in addressing anti-government militia extremists. During his studies, Peter took a keen interest in Chinese political economy, global governance, conflict and security, and peacebuilding.
In 2019, Peter graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies, a Research Specialization Option, a Peace and Conflict Studies Specialization, and Spanish Minor. As part of his BA, Peter completed an undergraduate thesis which examined the impacts of the Oslo Accords on women’s rights movements in the Gaza Strip, calling for an increase in local ownership by Gazan women during these processes.
At the BSIA, Peter hopes to deepen his understanding of human security and global governance, seeking ways in which policy can improve the lives of people living in conflict zones. After graduating, Peter hopes to work for Global Affairs Canada, strengthening Canada’s efforts in promoting international peace and security.
