December 18th is International Migrant Day. In recognition, we celebrate it by participating in the Waterloo Region Migration Film Festival (WRMFF) 2023 – #WRMigFest. This year, the International Migration Research Centre (IMRC), in collaboration with Immigration Partnership Waterloo Region, invite you to a screening of the 2021 film, Peace by Chocolate, written by Jonathan Keijser and Abdul Malik, and directed by Jonathan Keijser (96 min).
Movie description
After the bombing of his father’s chocolate factory, a charming young Syrian refugee struggles to settle into his new small-town life, caught between following his dream and preserving his family’s legacy. The film is based on a true story of a Syrian family, the Hadads, who fled as refugees to Lebanon, and after 3 years in Lebanon, resettled in Canada in Antigonish, Nova Scotia in 2016.

Waterloo Region Migration Film Festival – #WRMigFest
December 1st to 18th, 2023
Storytelling is the oldest way to share and have impactful conversations around social issues. WRMFF is an educational tool that can influence perceptions and attitudes toward migrants, by bringing attention to matters that affect basic human rights!
The goal of the Festival is to pave the way for greater discussion around migration and relocation, by creating spaces for respectful interaction and dialogues.
