Summits in the COVID Era: Reflections from the 2021 G7 Summit

September 28, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Tickets are not available as this event has passed.

In June 2021 the G7 met in-person for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began, marking a return towards normality after international summits, along with so much of our lives, were forced online. Having attended the UK-hosted summit, Dr Tristen Naylor (Cambridge University) will share his observations, reflecting on what the ‘new normal’ for international summitry is likely to be and what the implications are of shifts towards ‘virtual’ and ‘hybrid’ forms of online summitry.

About the Speaker

Dr Tristen Naylor is the Lecturer in International Politics and History at the University of Cambridge. An expert in international summits and diplomacy, Dr Naylor’s work focuses particularly on the G7 and G20. His most recent book, Social Closure and International Society, develops a theory to improve IR’s accounts of hierarchy, stratification, and status-seeking while analysing the history of summits since the 19th century. Dr Naylor previously held posts at the University of Oxford, the London School of Economics, and Sciences Po, Paris. Prior to his academic career Dr Naylor served as a Policy Analyst and Advisor to the Government of Canada
